Handcrafted Jewellery (hub)
Handcrafted jewellery, made on-site in Glenelg
This is the heart of the workshop. Every piece in our handcrafted collection is shaped, soldered, set and finished by hand at our Jetty Road bench. No outsourcing, no casting, no mass-production. Just gold, platinum, gemstones and three generations of skill.
What handcrafted jewellery really means
A lot of jewellery sold today is described as handcrafted but isn't. Cast jewellery starts as a wax model, is taken from a mould, and is produced in volume. Handcrafted jewellery starts as raw metal and is formed entirely by hand at a jeweller's bench. They're fundamentally different things.
At Wishart, handcrafted means the ring on your finger was made specifically for you, by a jeweller you can put a name to. The shank was hand-formed. The claws were hand-set. The stones were chosen, evaluated and placed individually. If you'd like, you can watch it being made.
Why handcrafted lasts longer
Cast jewellery has a few inherent weaknesses. The casting process can leave micro-porosity in the metal, which weakens the structure over time. Cast claws are often thinner. Cast settings are designed to be efficient to produce, not necessarily to last decades.
Hand-fabricated jewellery is denser, stronger and more durable. Hand-made claws hold stones more securely. Hand-formed shanks are less likely to thin or fracture. And because each piece is built by hand, sizing, modification, restoration and remodelling are all straightforward later in the piece's life.
It's the kind of jewellery designed to be worn every day, for decades, and then handed down.
The workshop behind every piece
Our workshop sits directly behind the showroom at 103 Jetty Road. Five manufacturing jewellers, one designer, one gemmologist, and over 150 combined years of experience. Almost everything happens under this one roof.

Want something we don't have on display?
Most of the rings you'll see on our handcrafted pages started as a sketch on a piece of paper. If you'd like a piece that's not in the collection (different stone, different setting, different metal, or something entirely your own design) the starting point is the same. Book an appointment with Dan, bring your inspiration, and we'll design it together.
