Wedding Bands

Wedding bands, hand-made to last a lifetime

The wedding band is the ring you'll wear longer than any other piece of jewellery you'll ever own. Plain or set, matching or contrasting, fitted to your engagement ring or designed as a standalone, the wedding band carries a lot of weight for something so often understated. Every band we make is hand-fabricated at the Glenelg workshop.

Plain bands

The classic. A polished or finished band with no stones, made entirely by hand from solid gold or platinum.

Plain bands look simple, but the details matter. Width, profile, finish and metal each change how the band sits, how it wears and how it pairs with an engagement ring.

  • Width: From delicate 1.5mm to substantial 4mm and beyond
  • Profile: Court (rounded inside and out), D-shape (flat inside, rounded outside), flat (modern and architectural), comfort-fit (rounded inside for everyday comfort)
  • Finish: Polished, satin/brushed, hammered, milgrain edge
  • Metals: 18ct white, yellow or rose gold, platinum, or two-tone combinations

Diamond-set bands

Bands with diamonds, ranging from a few accent stones to a fully set eternity-style band.

  • Channel-set bands: Stones set inside a channel of metal, protected and secure. Beautiful with princess and round brilliant diamonds.
  • Claw-set bands: Stones held by individual claws, more light entering the diamond, more brilliance.
  • Pavé bands: Small diamonds set very close together, creating a continuous sparkle. Hand-set, hand-finished.
  • Bead-set bands: Diamonds held by small grains of metal, often with milgrain edges. Vintage-feeling and beautifully detailed.

Fitted bands

For engagement rings that don't sit flush against a standard straight band (because of the setting profile, the centre stone, or the shoulder design), a fitted band is custom-shaped to follow the contour of the engagement ring exactly.

Fitted bands take a bit longer to make because of the precision required, but the result is a wedding set that looks like it was always meant to be worn together. Plenty of clients commission the fitted band at the same time as the engagement ring so both can be designed as a single piece.

Matching sets

For couples who want their wedding bands to match each other (in metal, profile, finish or detail), we design them as a pair. Match the metal but vary the width. Match the profile but differ the finish. Make the bands quite different but include the same hand-engraved detail inside each.

There are no rules here. The conversation starts with what feels right for both of you.

Metal pairing with your engagement ring

A frequent question: should the wedding band match the engagement ring metal?

Traditionally, yes. Matching metals (white with white, yellow with yellow) creates the cleanest, most cohesive look. But there's no rule, and contrasting metals can be a beautiful design choice. White gold or platinum engagement rings can look striking against a yellow or rose gold wedding band. Two-tone engagement rings open up almost any combination.

If you're not sure, bring your engagement ring to the consultation and we'll trial different metal options against it.

Inside engraving

Most wedding bands we make are engraved on the inside with a date, names, initials, or a short message. It's hand-engraved by our engraver, and there's no charge for engraving up to a standard character count. Bring your wording to the design stage.
